Hospital Pricing Transparency at University Hospital

In accordance with the Public Health Service Act §2718(e), Social Security Act §1102(a), and Title 45 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 180, University Hospital provides the following publicly available pricing files:

1. Standard Charges File

This file includes:

• Gross charge: amount billed without discounts
• Discounted cash price: amount offered to self-pay patients
• Payer-specific negotiated charges: amounts agreed upon with individual insurers
• Minimum and maximum negotiated charges: lowest and highest rates across payers
• Site/location of service delivery
• Billing codes and service descriptions

This file includes facility charges only and does not reflect charges from independent providers, anesthesiologists, radiologists, or other contracted professionals.

2. Shoppable Services Tool

UH provides a user-friendly estimator tool for at least 300 shoppable services, including 70 required by CMS and additional commonly scheduled services selected by UH. These services are non-emergency and may be scheduled in advance. The tool allows patients to estimate the portion of charges they may be responsible for, based on services and anticipated insurance payments.

3. Charge Description Master (CDM)

This detailed list includes pricing for a broad range of hospital items and services offered by UH. While not currently mandated by CMS, UH voluntarily provides this file in its commitment to transparency. Charges listed in the CDM are the same for all patients but do not represent actual payment amounts or patient liabilities.

Limitations on Use

The pricing information made available is intended solely for patient education and comparison of standard hospital charges. Any reuse, reproduction, redistribution, or analysis of this data for commercial or non-patient-centered purposes, including market research, is prohibited. Portions of the data represent confidential and proprietary pricing arrangements protected by contractual agreements and applicable trade secret laws.

Billing & Financial Responsibility

Please keep in mind:

• Standard charges are uniform, but your out-of-pocket costs may vary significantly based on your insurance terms, coverage limits, and eligibility for assistance.
• Charges may not include professional fees (e.g., physicians, radiologists, anesthesiologists) billed separately.
